Cartoons: bashing away
Judging from the cartoons currently being shown on The Week's cartoon page, the cartooning world has given way to bashing your political opponent--and anyone else within range. So my selection today is about any topic not directly related to waging political war. This is what I found.
Bill Clinton was misquoted as describing "Obamacare as 'crazy',” according to New York Magazine in 7 Reasons To Stop Freaking Out About Obamacare.
While Capitalism in the U.S. isn't working particularly well, what with income inequality and favors for the wealthy, Socialism in Venezuela is crashing. It seems everyone is in the same stew and the pot is empty--In a hungry Venezuela, buying too much food can get you arrested.

Here are some bits today on American boots in Syria, the rising rate of middle-aged Americans biting the dust, and breadcrumbs for the GOP contenders.

Here's some unexpected and unwelcome news from the American front: A group of middle-aged whites in the U.S. is dying at a startling rate.
Then there's the GOP front. Do you think that more control over the debates will give those running a better chance? GOP contenders demand greater control over crucial debates. This circus' finale will be the 2016 Republican National Convention in July. Then the heat's on until the federal election in November. Then it will be over for a while, but not long enough.

Hypocrisy is an ugly word and even uglier to see in action, but we're seeing a lot of it lately.
O.K. Cuban leaders do not have a clean record when it comes to human rights; but, thanks to America's response to 9/11, neither do we. See Gitmo.
Do you think the Republican Party will ever rejoin humanity?
Shame on you, Atlanta teachers. What if you catch your students cheating?
Now that April 15th, aka Tax Day in the U.S., is over, we can laugh.

Ah, spring!
In spring, 2014, a 2-year renovation of the U.S. Capitol Dome was started; it may be done by January, 2017, reports WJLA in Washington, DC. This is what cartoonist Tom Toles has to say about it.

So...Cruz is running for president. Why am I not surprised.
It looks like cartoonist John Cole doesn't like him much.
Cruz, a Tea Party guy, does have a history with the Republican Party.
The media is ecstatic.
And, finally, a robin for spring, such as it is (NOAA: Departure of average temperature from normal [in degrees F], Feb 2015).

Cartoons: well, don't that beat all.
My regard for America and thinking that it's the best country in the world has taken a pretty serious beating in the last five, ten years. And things just seem to get worse.
The aptly-named Patriots cheat at football.
The Republicans spent millions of dollars to take control Congress and they can't find a presidential candidate who has national appeal.
The rich just keep getting richer, and have the Supreme Court's sanction (see Citizen's United) to buy anything American they want.
And the British in the form of BP (British Petroleum) are still treating us like the Colonies.
Sorry for the dark, sort of snarky, viewpoint--today's just a don't-that-beat-all day. Maybe it's time to stop watching the news again.

Creationists aren't going to like this one.
This cartoon depicts its environment beautifully well. But it begs the question: does anyone have faith in the reality television genre?

Some low-information voters' views are more moderate than those of high-information voters, they are less likely to vote, and are looking for a candidate they find personally appealing. They tend to be swing voters, and they tend to vote split-ticket more than well-informed voters do, researchers say because they lack a coherent ideology.Seems to me this Wikipedia article sounds biased. Voting a split-ticket may be a good thing; it might help to break up some of the partisanship in Washington.

The events in Ferguson have released a wave of editorial comments about the current state of policing in the U.S. Or is it the current police state? Of the opinions below, take your pick.
On a side note, if automation does take over, this may be the case.
So Obama golfs. So did 18 other presidents. Here's a little perspective: Obama's Played 100 Rounds Of Golf; Which Presidents Beat That?. Note that in the photo he's golfing with former president Clinton; could it be that he's asking a little advice from a veteran?
