Cartoons: Foggy Bottom reality

Saturday Night Live (SNL) is doing such a good job of satirizing this administration that the line between fact and fiction (if there is one) is becoming even harder to discern. BTW, the term Foggy Bottom is associated with the U.S. State Department, now somewhat defunct.

So, Congress will dump Obamacare (ACA) without having a replacement? Sad.

Even credentialed psychologists question Trump's mental health--from afar. One credentialed psychologist is says he's just a  "world class narcissist."

It's the poor--you know, the people at the bottom of the economic heap--that reap what's left over when the power games end.

Cartoons: beltway leaks

It took me a minute to 'catch' this first cartoon, but when I did there was a loud guffaw and continued chuckling.

Trump and his staff's connections with Russia clearly need investigating, but it's unlikely an almost all Republican congress will do it. Here's what the Bloomberg Editorial Board has to say about it: Investigate Trump's Russia Ties. The Editorial Board of the New York Times is a little more subdued: Time for Congress to Investigate Mr. Trump’s Ties to Russia. Somewhere behind their gated walls billionaires that are Democrats must be fuming.

Cartoons: White House Yard Sale and States' Rights

While many are mourning a 'reasonable' and 'predictable' presidency, the current challenges may herald the birth of states' rights movements not centered on holding fast to outmoded values (mostly Southern), such as segregation and other forms of bigotry. The venerable Nation, a publication that dates back to 1865, published recently "West Coast Politicians Are Fighting Back Against Donald Trump," stating
This could become the largest resistance movement to federal policy in more than a century.
The Washington Times wrote "California discovers states’ rights."

Nordstrom's, headquartered in Seattle, has dropped Ivanka Trump's fashion label; and the stock market has responded. Trump is furious.

So will we soon see yard sales on the White House lawn offering Donald's and Ivanka's goods for sale? It's possible, but not if a congressional ethics review is, well, ethical.

Cartoons: Lady Liberty speaks up

This week ever more trumpery was afoot with bans, alternative facts and other "really great" moves. Both Democrats and Republicans are beginning to oppose him. According to Time Magazine, "Congressional Democrats Have Closed Ranks Against President Trump" and "Republicans Begin to Break With President Trump" because of his ban on immigrants and refugees. Brave Americans are also speaking out against Trump and to support those burdened by Trump's edicts.

Since being inaugurated,Trump has
already signed two proclamations,  seven executive orders and seven presidential memoranda. He's invented a new form of presidential directive — the national security presidential memorandum — and signed three of those. (USA Today)
The article cited above has a complete list of these actions.

According to Wikipedia, the Alt-right
has its roots on websites such as 4chan and 8chan, where anonymous members create and use Internet memes to express themselves. It is difficult to tell how much of what people write in these venues is serious and how much is intended to provoke outrage. Members of the alt-right use websites like Twitter and Breitbart to convey their message. Alt-right postings generally support Donald Trump and oppose immigration, multiculturalism and political correctness.
