Cartoons: What about no more federal government?

On December 22, Congress will again address a government shutdown. Forbes reports on the last near miss in Congress Has Narrowly Averted a Government Shutdown, for Now. With the way Trump's version of government is going, I'm thinking a shutdown wouldn't be such a bad thing.

With so many women stepping forward, I'm guessing just about every man in America is in the hot seat.

Cartoon: Tax cuts...for the children

Fortune Magazine says "Trump’s Tax Cuts Are the Biggest Wealth Grab in Modern History." That's quite a statement coming from a magazine that espouses wealth and growing it.

This is what Mike Luckovich has to say about the cuts:

Cartoon: a broken ballot box

After very little research and some observation, I've come up with the following definitions for GOP base vs. GOP establishment. Trump's base, for example, is the folks who attend his rallies, commit anti-semitic, racist mayhem, and vote for him. The GOP establishment is the power-mad party that keeps him in office, because they think he will further their interests, such as lower taxes for corporations and the wealthy, repealing Obamacare, etc.

Check out Peter Stevenson's article in the Washington Post for a more reasoned look at "Who exactly is in the ‘GOP establishment?’ (April,2016)".

Flamingos in the men's room

For a while on Wednesday, it looked like Irma might bestow her dire power on Washington, DC. But no housecleaning this time.

In today's post we have 2 cartoons and the image that inspired the title of today's post.

This article by NPR (National Public Radio) is a good read: Flamingos In The Men's Room.

More than 50 Caribbean flamingos take shelter in a men's restroom at the Miami Metrozoo (now Zoo Miami) on Sept. 25, 1998. Zookeepers rounded up the birds to protect them from the effects of Hurricane Georges. This was not the first time the zoo had to corral flamingos in a restroom. They were also in there during Hurricane Andrew, six years earlier.

Cartoons: branding

Wells Fargo wants us to identify them as rugged, wholesome examples of the American West. So much for branding. With recent revelations about the way the company does business, sneaky two-timing bandits come to mind. Steve Sack captures it well.

With all the White House leaks, you can color Trump livid. If you want to see transcripts of his January conversations with Mexican President Peña Nieto and Australian Prime Minister Turnbull, follow this link: Full transcripts of Trump’s calls with Mexico and Australia.

Cartoons: let the TV cameras roll

This week we take a look at Trump's ever-more-closed empire; GOP senators as downed Confederate soldiers; and Trump's idea that he can pardon himself and his cronies, if worse comes to worse.

Cartoons: Lost in translation

Today I'm looking at Mitch McConnell's Health Care Folly; a reminder of what's on the GOP's plate (since they rule the U.S. government now, however ineffectively) and Trump's Russian connection(s).

This cartoon by David Horsey is, to me, priceless.
